Have Joint Pain?

Wondering how you can address a ligament sprain or tear due to injury?

When a ligament or tendon is injured (sprained or torn) the weakness causes instability in the joint. This generally causes pain and allows further damage to occur. Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT), a form of Prolotherapy, is a tool used to help with acute and chronic injuries you may be suffering from by stimulating the body to heal.

These injections are beneficial for ligament and tendon sprains, as well as cartilage, such as the meniscus in the knee and the labrum in the shoulder. After a complete series of treatments, patients are  completely relieved of pain. If you’re experiencing chronic joint pain, contact us today to get started on your road to recovery!

Is Regenerative Injection Therapy like a Cortisone shot?

Not exactly. RIT can be generally applied to the same joints and conditions that cortisone/steroid injections. Steroids stops inflammation in the joint but they also causes a decrease in the healing capacity of the body. This means it takes longer for you to get back to your optimal health and performance. RIT works to stimulate healing in the joint and thus strengthens the previously injured area.

Is Regenerative Injection Therapy Safe?

In short, Yes! The injection includes ingredients that are very safe. These ingredients are:

  •      Dextrose (a sugar)

  •      Lidocaine (a very common local anaesthetic)

  •      MSM (connective tissue support)

  •      Sarapin (natural non anti-inflammatory pain reliever)

A thorough after-care plan is also provided for you to optimize the effectiveness of each treatment.

How often will I need to have the treatment?

Treatments are typically every 4 to 6 weeks depending on each your individual situation. Response to treatment  adjusted as needed.

Patients generally require between 4 and 8 treatments for full resolution of pain, though there is often significant improvement within the first few treatments. Some conditions, such as chronic lower back pain may require more treatments than other conditions for full resolution.

Since we are stimulating a healing response, the treatments typically provide a permanent solution. Though “touch up” injections are sometimes  necessary, this is generally the exception.

How much downtime will I have?

Since we are stimulating an inflammatory response, there can be some mild aching after the injections. This typically lasts for 1-5 days, and is often well managed by over the counter pain medicine. Recommendations for activity restrictions will be specific to each patient and typically allow for regular activity shortly after each injection.
